Pioneering Innovation in Viterbo 📍
The Unitus DataLab is the Data Science and Analytics Laboratory of the University of Tuscia (Unitus), based in Viterbo, Italy.
It was created to advance research, innovation, and education in the fields of data science, artificial intelligence, and computational modeling, supporting both academic projects and collaborations with public institutions and private companies.
Our mission is to transform data into knowledge through a rigorous scientific approach and state-of-the-art technology. The laboratory integrates expertise in statistical modeling, machine learning, big data engineering, and geospatial analytics, fostering interdisciplinary research across domains such as environmental sciences, healthcare, economics, and social policy..
Built on a robust technological infrastructure, the Unitus DataLab provides containerized environments for reproducible research, automated data pipelines for large-scale analytics, and high-performance computing resources for simulation and modeling. The lab leverages modern tools such as Portainer, Windmill, Airbyte, Prefect, MinIO, PostgreSQL, and MLflow, enabling end-to-end workflows from data collection to deployment.
Beyond research, the DataLab serves as a collaborative hub connecting students, researchers, and industry professionals. Through training programs, applied projects, and open-data initiatives, we promote a culture of transparency, innovation, and data-driven decision making.
Our vision is to make data science an accessible and empowering discipline, driving evidence-based insights that contribute to societal progress and sustainable development.
The Unitus DataLab operates at the intersection of data, computation, and real-world impact. Our main research and development areas include:
Agricultural Analytics – Development of models and data pipelines to support agricultural policy, sustainability assessment, and productivity analysis, leveraging open and proprietary datasets at regional and European levels.
Price and Inflation Modelling – Creation of automated systems for collecting and analyzing price data, using web scraping, time series modeling, and machine learning to support research (on both academic and corporate settings) on cost dynamics and inflation trends.
Web Scraping and Data Collection – Advanced data acquisition frameworks integrating APIs, browser automation, and distributed scraping infrastructures. Our architecture combines VPN-based traffic routing, containerised scrapers, and automated orchestration for scalable, resilient, fault-tolerant data collection.
Geospatial and Environmental Data Science – Application of spatial statistics, GIS, and remote sensing to understand territorial dynamics, environmental change, and spatial inequalities.
Together, these domains reflect the laboratory’s commitment to bridging data science with applied research, building tools and evidence to inform public policy, innovation, and sustainability.
We welcome collaboration and knowledge sharing. If you're interested in our research, want to explore partnership opportunities, or have insights to contribute, don’t hesitate to reach out. Let’s work together to shape the future of Google Sites design and functionality.
